Spruce Your Kitchen Up One Step at a Time

By Reader

Kitchen remodeling is definitely the most popular new fad today. The majority of us spend a large amount of time in our kitchen, whether cooking, or eating at the kitchen islands bar. Not only do you need to spend at least an hour preparing family meals every evening, you also need to get breakfast ready, do clean up, and pack lunches. Since this room sees lots of traffic and many people pop in and out looking for small snacks throughout the day, you need to make this room as attractive as possible!

If you are interested in a complete room remodel, then go for it! It might be a time consuming process but if you want an entirely new look, then there is no reason not to try for it. Many kitchens suffer from a lack of light. Large windows open up the room and make it a much more enjoyable place in which to spend time! However, if you would prefer to avoid expensive contractors and eating out in the garage for six months, here are a few other ideas to spruce up your kitchen design without the construction!

1) Add color! A safe color rule to remember is 60:30:10. This ratio should represent how you use color in your kitchen. The majority of the color (60) should be for your walls and cabinets. The next amount (30) could be the color you use for your floor and the (10) represents the color of your counter tops or perhaps a special tile motif on one of your walls. You will love the vibrancy a striking color scheme can bring to your kitchen.

2) Add counter space. Have you ever considered installing a kitchen island? Kitchen carts are also a fantastic option for those who do not have much room for a permanent island. You will never have to stress out about counter space or storage areas ever again with this convenient addition. Add a few kitchen bar stools and you have a casual dining space as well!

3) Add “green” to your kitchen! Consider energy efficient lighting and green-recycled glass countertops. Not only will you feel great about helping save the environment, you will also love the new look!
