Archive for Choosing

One of the most important decisions in a bathroom remodel project is choosing the plumbing fixtures. There are so many options today; you need to consider a few key details to make an educated decision. What fixtures are you shopping for? A typical bathroom remodel includes vanity faucets, tub faucets, and shower faucets. Begin by making a list of the faucets you are shopping for.

The next item to decide is your budget. Plumbing fixtures can vary widely in price, so setting a budget is an important first step. You should not use price as your only factor in choosing fixtures, as the quality of fixtures also varies widely. You definitely get what you pay for when it comes to plumbing fixtures.

What is the style of your bathroom? Is it traditional or contemporary? Traditional style faucets include the standard 3 hole, 2 handle gooseneck, while a contemporary look would be something like the Purist line from Kohler – simple and sleek.

What finish matches your style? Here are the most popular finishes:

- Chrome: Chrome is the least expensive and is the most easily matched across manufacturers. This simply means that you are generally safe buying a chrome finish faucet from Moen and one from Kohler to use in the same bathroom and you should not notice the difference in finish color.

- Polished Brass

- Antique Brass

- Pewter

- Brushed or Satin Nickel

- Oil Rubbed Bronze: This is the most expensive finish; if you choose this finish, consider a high quality brand name, as the oil rubbed finish tends to rub off depending on the amount of use.

Quality issues to consider include:

- The fixture needs to be manufactured from metal, no plastic parts.

- The fixture should be heavy, significant of solid metal.

- The fixture should have washer less valves and/or ceramic valves.

- Does the fixture come with a warranty?

The best way to check quality is to test display models at your local hardware store. You can immediately feel the difference between a fixture that is $50 and one that is $200. This will help you determine what will fit your needs based on price and use.

If choosing a tub faucet, make sure there is ample flow rate to fill a tub in a reasonable amount of time. Some shower faucets take special plumbing requirements such as larger water lines and specific plumbing techniques for proper operations. If choosing a large shower head, you need to consider if the fixture will require a higher flow rate on the valve and larger diameter plumbing for proper operation. Also, be sure to have ample support for long stem shower heads.

Getting a good night’s sleep is important to your health. That’s why it’s important to have a bed that is comfortable and bedding that is equally relaxing to sleep on. Your bed is the focal point of your bedroom. This means the sheets you use should have a color scheme that matches the theme of your bedroom. Choosing the right set of bed sheets will add personality and appeal to your room. Here are some tips to follow when choosing bedding sheets for your room.

One factor you need to consider is buying the correct size sheets for your mattress. This may sound silly but often people end up purchasing the wrong size sheets. Avoid this mistake by knowing what size sheets you need before you make the purchase.  Generally, bedding sheets come in the following sizes: Twin, Full, Queen and King. Matching pillow case covers usually come along in the set, which is very convenient.

Another factor you should pay attention to is a term known as thread count per inch (TPI). A higher TPI will have a softer feel. Usually a TPI number above 200 should provide comfort and durability. If you are looking to maximize your sleep, avoid bedding that offers anything less than 200 TPI. Common fabrics include cotton, flannel and mixed-fabrics. Of course, you can always go with satins and silks although the price would be more expensive. Keep in mind that you want the color of the sheets to match the overall color scheme of the room. Ideally, you want to pick a color that complements the color of the wall. Hopefully, these tips will help you in your quest to find the right bedding sheets.

Choosing Sexy High Heels for yourself

Posted by: Reader | Comments (0)

It is a well known fact that the right pair of high heels can make your feet look sexy. The first rule of high heel shoe shopping is ‘the higher the heel, the more you should spend’. That doesn’t mean you can’t find a comfortable pair of sexy high heels for under $50, you probably won’t find a pair of stilettos or platform shoes in that range, though.

There are several things to consider when you are choosing the perfect pair of high heels:

1. If you hate your toes, opt for pumps with a closed toe, or try a peep-toe pump to see if its less-revealing style covers the parts you hate most. Rough heels won’t look good in a backless sandal, but there are plenty of shoes with open toes that still cover the back of your feet.

2. Rule number two is to emphasize the nice things about your feet. Also an obvious trick, but since we usually tend to focus on what we don’t like, it’s easy to forget what is good about our feet, for example : pumps will accentuate the graceful curves of high arches, ankle straps can highlight a shapely ankle, and of course slides can show off the perfect set of nails. If you’re still convinced that every aspect of your foot is horrid, then find sexy shoes that cover as much as possible.

3. Your shoes must fit if you want your feet to look sexy. Even the most perfect foot looks awkward if it’s hanging over the edge of its sandal. No matter how hot the sandal in question is, and a foot that looks as if it’s been crammed into a pump that’s too tight will give the impression that your feet are so big you can’t find shoes to fit. The same can be said for ankle straps. If they’re cutting into your skin, loosen them or skip them altogether. They shouldn’t be too loose, but if they’re too tight, they will look as uncomfortable as they feel.

4. When you’ve found a pair of high heel or platform shoes you really love, wear them around the shoe store for a short while. If there are any problems, your feet will tell you rather quickly. Take them home but keep your store slip.

5. Wear them around your home for an hour or two. The reason for the home wear is two-fold; first, you won’t hurt yourself as much should you fall or stumble. Second, you won’t wear the soles or the heels should you need to return them. If you have blisters or discomfort in any way, you should return them to the shoe store straight away.

It is a well known fact that the right pair of high heels can make your feet look sexy.

Choosing a Tent

Posted by: Reader | Comments (0)

Tents come in every imaginable shape and size. Which tent is right for your needs? That is a very common question and is a matter of personal preference. Below is some information that should help you choose the appropriate tent for your needs.

When choosing the size of the tent don’t go by the advertised ‘two man, four man, etc’. The advertised size is simply the maximum number of average sized adults you can cram in there with no regards to comfort. Divide the advertised rate in half and this should give you the comfortable capacity of the tent. Also, try not to purchase a tent that is too large as there are some complications with this. It can be difficult to find a smooth and level spot large enough to set up larger tents. Larger tents are also quite heavy and the load and unload experience can be frustrating.

A three-season tent is ideal unless you’re dealing with snow. For layout purposes, tents with square floor shapes are much more efficient. Tents with ‘tub’ floors, floors that turn up off the ground at the sides, will help keep out any water that happens to run underneath. Look for tents that provide extra repair links for the poles as a broken pole is common. Obviously, the thicker the fabric the better but also keep an eye on the seams; they should be reinforced with nylon tape. Take extra measures to waterproof these seams with a seam sealer which you should try to apply before the trip. Don’t neglect the zippers when buying a tent; they should open and close freely.

A common misconception with using tents is that the footprint, or the tarp underneath, should be larger than the tent itself. This can actually serve as a funnel for water to flow under your tent during rainstorms.

The tradition of flower girls and ring bearers actually dates back to Victorian times when they were used to entertain and wow the wedding attendees. Their size and innocent reactions are what make them so special. In fact, if you are having a formal wedding, children can be a great icebreaker. It is a very special honor however, for children to be a part of your wedding, but not mandatory.

Note to the Bride or Planner

It is always nice to have as many children as the bride wishes in the wedding. When thinking of the child or children to fill this role, do not forget about out of town family members with children that will be attending the wedding. If the bride is close to them, find someway to incorporate them, even if you have to have 2-3 flower girls (how many did Princess Diana have?) By not finding space for them may hurt the feelings of the parents or even worse, the child! Children are their worst enemies sometimes, so you don’t want anyone feeling left out on such a special day, especially when our dresses are so inexpensive.

Flower girl(s)

You may choose one or two little girls to be the flower girl(s). The best age range is between four and eight. The younger they are the more of a challenge they can be.

There is no hard and fast rule that a child has to be between these ages to be a flower girl, it is whatever and whoever the bride chooses. However, consider that a 13 year old girl (at that age) would probably rather be called “junior attendant” instead of flower girl. This all depends on the girl and how mature she is.

Little ladies are the norm, but don’t forget, cute little boys can fill this role, too. If you don’t have any little girls, choose who ever will make it special for you.

Junior bridesmaids/junior groomsmen/junior ushers

Young members of the wedding party (aged 9-16). They’ll attend all major functions (excluding X-rated ones) and fulfill the same responsibilities as senior members.

Dresses for junior bridesmaids should be styled for their age (no low-cut necklines). They might wear the same color and fabric as the bridesmaids and the same hair accessory and the hand bouquet should match.

Generally, they are daughters, sons, and cousins of the wedding party. If they are chosen from outside the normal wedding party, make sure that their parents are invited to all the functions surrounding their attendance.

Ring bearer(s)

A young boy (or girl) aged 4-8, who walks down the aisle just before the flower girl (if there is one), carrying a small decorative pillow with two rings tied to it (usually fakes, in case they are lost).

The ring bearer can also be 2 young boys or girls. We have seen beautiful ceremonies where 2 young boys come down the isle each holding a pillow for each ring. If you have 2 boys who are fighting to be ring bearer, this is an easy fix! Our ring pillows are only 19.99- so for the cost of 2 is what you would pay for 1 in the wedding stores.

Pages and Train Bearers

Young boys (or girls) aged 6-9 who carry the bride’s extra-long train (think of a royal wedding) as she walks down the aisle. Also known as “train bearers.” More common in English weddings. If they are older, they are usually dressed to match the ushers. If you choose to have a girl page or train bearer, she is dressed to complement the attire of the flower girl(s). If the girl(s) are older, they are dressed to match the attire of the junior bridesmaids or attendants. These types of attendants are usually needed when the wedding gown has a very long train. They always walk down and up the isle in pairs and are about the same height.

Candle lighter(s)

In some Christian ceremonies, pre-teens aged 9-12 (who aren’t pyromaniacs) light candles at the altar just before the mother of the bride is seated. Ceremony musicians may be begin a new prelude selection as the candle lighters step forward. They also responsible for “snuffing” the candles after the recession as guests are filing out of the site. Candle lighters may be dressed like the wedding party or may sport their own attire but dressing similar to the junior ushers and junior bridesmaids.

In the case of our company owner, she wanted to honor her deceased grandparents and husbands sister, so there were several candles that were lit in honor and remembrance of them surrounding the unity candle. It was a special way to include them in the ceremony and their names and relationship to the bride and groom were included in the written wedding program.

Mary Cooper runs her small boutique of different flower girl dress. Her collection includes popular Wedding dresses.

Choosing Towel Tips.

Posted by: Reader | Comments (0)

Choosing towel tips

As you may know that there are many types of towel available, which can be made from different materials. However, the thing you should consider is the function of usage when stocking up this bathing equipment.

The best material that suitable for make towel is cotton fabric, because the main purpose of towel is to blot up water and cotton fabric is hydrophilic so it has strong ability to absorb water. However, the synthetic cotton my not be as absorbent as entire-cotton towel, because only natural cotton is more hydrophobic and it absorbs moisture into its structure, which has many of layers.

Terry cloth or Velvet?

The terry clothes generally has loops that has ability to absorb water. The most loop, the greater ability to absorb. However, some other people prefer velvet towel. Velvet towel is made by shearing process that removes part of the terry and shortens the fabric pile. However, the ability to absorb moisture of velvet towel is slightly less that terry cloth, because of it has shorter loop but this does not affect its performance as long as it is used to blot, rather than rub dry. However, in some case, if you lucky enough during shopping and you can fine the towel that one side is terrycloth and other side is velvet. The way that you can easily check the ability to absorb water of a towel is thickness, the towel has more thickness usually contain more.

There are other problems of some body who can not identify which one is made from real cotton. As mentioned above that quality of cotton is the key to identify the absorbent, so how we will know that the towel made from real cotton? The most easiest way is you have to look for the Seal of Cotton trademark, which appears on many towels, bath and bedding items.

How to keep and maintain your towel

Generally, good quality towel can last for more than 10 years, so I strongly recommend you to invest by purchase the highest quality one that you are able to afford it.

Tips for making your towel long lasting

1. You should launder it quite frequent and use only soft detergent

2. Do not use fabric softener as it has silicones, which effect to towel and make it virtually water repellent

3. During the first three or four washing, you should separate towels that has dark tone colour, because its colour will bleed and make other clothes be stained with the colour from towel. You can mix other clothes with towel when washing after 5 times washing it separately. However, if possible you should forever, washing them separately because it may also be stained by the colour of other clothes.

4. Do not bleach colored towel because it will destroy ability to absorb water of the towels.

5. If drying by hanging, do not twist towel, just shake it only once and hang it while still wet, this will help to maintain quality of terry loops.

6. Do not iron towels, as it will reduce absorbance

Choosing a Poker Table Set

Posted by: Reader | Comments (1)

There is no denying the fact that poker has become increasingly popular in recent years. Whether you’re talking about celebrity poker on TV, poker games at home, or online poker, the game is going through a renaissance period. This new trend now means that you’ll find more poker accessories than ever before. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the wide variety of poker table set available nowadays.

One of the great things about the game of poker is not just the variety of games such as Texas Hold ‘Em, Hi/Lo poker, Seven Card Stud, Crazy Pineapple, but also all of the accessories that go with the game. Poker fans love the feel of poker chips, sitting in a dim lit, possibly smoky room around a felt poker table. There are actually as many poker table sets, as there are games. For instance, Texas Hold ‘Em poker table sets are far different from Seven Card Stud poker table sets. Texas Hold ‘Em poker table sets are more elongated and look a lot like small pool tables.

For this reason, you may need to buy different poker table sets according to the poker variation you like best. If you’re interested in playing a wider variety of games, the standard octagon-shaped poker table sets would be your best bet. There are poker table sets available with legs in place or table tops that will fit on most basic tables. The better poker table sets will have a molded space for a drink and chips with spots for as many as eight players.

Everyone knows that poker is as much about attitude as well as skill. Poker table sets add to the excitement of every round of poker you play. Some complete poker table sets with chairs included, are downright luxurious, made of solid cherry and leather. Other portable table tops are more modest, but still far preferable to playing on a just a plain table. Most poker table sets come in a variety of colors and wood stains to match a game room’s décor.

When choosing an ultralight backpacking tent there are several factors to take into consideration but I think that a couple of the main ones are obviously size and weight. Ok so you want the lightest tent you can find simply because you have to carry it around with you all day long, so the lighter the better. But don’t forget that you also have to sleep in it, often in conditions that are far from ideal e.g. wind, rain, snow, and anything else that the weather can throw at you.

There’s no point in buying the smallest lightest tent possible only to find that there is no room to put all your gear, so it’s left outside in the rain. On the other hand you do not want to be lugging around a heavy 2/3 man tent with you.

Your tent is often going to be the only thing between you and the elements, so it’s vital to choose the right one for you and your style of backpacking. There are many ultralight backpacking tents on the market, some just large enough for a person to lie down in, and some so small that you can’t sit up in them. I have used these tents on several occasions and found them fine for short weekend trips especially if like me you carry an ultralight tarp and walking pole so you can erect a handy sized awning over the front of the tent to give you some extra room for cooking etc.

Ok so you may think that taking a tarp and tent is a bit silly but it only adds slightly to your overall weight and its well worth it, and most people carry at least one walking pole on a hiking trip these days. Also if you are blessed with some fine weather you don’t even need to put up your tent but just use your tarp on its own.

On my last backpacking trip around Dartmoor I was gone for 19 days and I had with me a small one man tent and this was absolutely fine for the type of trip I had planned, just stopping one night in any one place. But during the first week I had trouble with an old knee injury and had to find a campsite to stay for a few nights (something I try not to do as I prefer wild camping when possible.) This became very uncomfortable after a couple of nights as I found that instead of packing equipment away after use it was easier to leave it in the tent which soon became very cluttered leaving less room for me and making the tent feel even smaller. So remember that a extra few ounces for a slightly larger tent can make all the difference when it comes to comfort.

Sadly I suppose the biggest consideration when choosing a backpacking tent is going to be the cost. All I can say is to buy the best one you can with your budget and remember that you are buying something that hopefully you will have for a long time, so make sure that:

- It fits you

- You feel comfortable in it

- It’s up to the job you want it for

- Lastly whatever tent you decide to buy in the end don’t leave it in its bag at the back of the cupboard,

Then all you have to do is get it out, use it and enjoy it!
