Archive for Christmas

I love Christmas! Like many people, it is my favorite time of year. I start planning for it in July, usually in planning for my home-made Christmas cards and what changes I may make to my decorations.

When we first got married, my husband and I used to visit the Christmas tree farms the week after Thanksgiving in search of that perfect tree.  On the way up the hill I would play this John Denver Christmas tape and sing along.  My husband hated the album, mostly because of the song “Daddy, Please Don’t Get Drunk This Christmas,” but I played it anyway and it became part of the tradition.  We would go from lot to lot looking for that elusive perfect tree: not too tall, perfectly round with no gaping holes without limbs, straight trunk, etc. Usually the day ended in the late afternoon with me getting tired, cold, cranky, and telling him to cut down the next darn tree he found.

Once we got the tree home, the process of getting it up and secured began. For many years the tree required wires connecting the tree to the wall to maintain stability and to make sure the cat didn’t knock it over.  Try as we might to keep it watered, by January there were needles all over the carpet. One year we inadvertently became hosts for a huge family of bugs that came along for the ride.  What a mess! Plus the post holiday cleanup seemed to get more and more laborious as the years progressed.

Finally, we got smart and purchased an artificial tree. I didn’t think I would be as happy with an artificial tree as I had been with a “real” tree. Much to my surprise, I loved it! The limbs are hinged and pre-lit. Set-up is a breeze and we can start decorating in no time. In January, there is no mess on the carpet to clean up after the tree is gone. Our home is not host to a bunch of creepy bugs.

Sometimes I miss the old tradition of our “annual Christmas tree fight” as it had become called. But we have replaced it with new traditions. When the tree is being set up, we play Christmas music, and I bake cookies with dough that I had prepared and frozen ahead of time in ready to bake portions. A kettle of hot spiced cider is on the stove and the house has wonderful smells of Christmas as we decorate the tree. My John Denver tape has long since disappeared but that is ok. We have a new tradition that doesn’t require it anymore.

In addition to our lovely tree, we purchased pre-lit garland for the fireplace mantle and a wreath for the front door that matches our tree. With a few pine scented fragrance diffusers place about the house, we have all of the good and none of the bad features of live Christmas trees.

I know that you will be able to establish new traditions to accompany the benefits of having an artificial tree. Merry Christmas!

Marlia Brightston loves to decorate for Christmas, especially since she purchased some artifical Christmas trees from classychristmastrees.com. Discount Christmas Trees work great for both her home and her classroom and give her much more time for other important things, like her children.

Craft Ideas For Christmas

Posted by: Reader | Comments (0)

Christmas is a happy season. Some people make craft projects in the holidays to give out as presents for loved ones.

Christmas is a very special day for everyone. People steadfastly wait for this joyous season each year. It is a time of love, giving, sharing, and fun. It is the season of building unforgettable memories.

People indulge in Christmas crafts to feel the spirit of this wonderful occasion. These are different activities you can do relating Christmas. It can be an individual project or it can be worked on with a group. The ideas are very vast and varied. The crafts could be any project you could give out as gifts, or serve as wonderful home Christmas decors. Here are some examples you can try.

Manger Scene
A manger scene is a replica of the real event that transpired many years ago when Jesus was born in a manger. This project can be created through a wooden box. After that, it can be filled with dried grass or straw. The dressed dolls will serve as different characters. It seems like real humans are standing there once they where placed around the area.

The kids can also assist in stringing popcorns in a cord. They can tie decorations to tinsel. They can also cut out paper snowflakes, santa claus, angels, stars, and other Christmas characters. The glitters and tinsel may also be put there to add colors for the decors.

Doing the manger scene is a great bonding activity for the whole family, or among classmates in school. It is a good time to reminisce the real meaning of Christmas.

Bobble Preparation
It is also wonderful to make own bobbles. This can be made through styrofoam balls. These balls may be painted with different colors or wrapped in different colored papers. Glitter glue or the common glue and scattered glitter would also be used. Ribbon or other attractive items will also add beauty to these bobbles.

Candles with Christmas Ribbons
Any ordinary candle will look very special and beautiful if you decorate it. It can be tied or wrapped with ribbons. You could also spray scents. These make both wonderful presents and decorations.

Wreaths
Wreaths may come in different forms. This can be created through wire framing, tinsel, bobbles, fruit, candles, ribbon and a lot more. Close two ends of the wire to form a circle. Wrap the wire with old newspapers to give it a body, then wrap it afterwards with green crepe papers. Design the wreath with red ribbons and a candle in the middle. You can hang the wreath in your door or walls.

Christmas Cookies
Christmas cookies may also be prepared just to make plans ahead. Cookie baking should get before the busy season starts. These have to be saved in airtight containers and be frozen in designated portions. Therefore, even everybody is busy for Christmas preparation, there are still cookies left to eat.

Other than that, several things may still do to make this Christmas holidays worthwhile. It is possible to make festive ribbon candleholder. Only need to do is to decorate a bare glass votive candleholder to look happy enough to adorn the house and table for Christmas. They are also beautiful Christmas presents.

Sleigh
Sleigh centerpiece and Christmas swag will also add beauty to the house. These would surely bring a person in the Christmas spirit. At the same time, the satisfaction can never be paid by anything once guests see and give praises. They would feel proud because they created this by themselves.

It is also charming to make Christmas door hanger. This is convenient and quick craft to make. This is also nice on the doorknob to see and give signals when there is someone comes in to the house. Any color would also be put with it as long as it gives liveliness to the entire area.

It is really pleasant to the heart to make a good preparation for Christmas holidays whether you feel tired in finishing it. Whats important is you felt satisfaction and dedicate it to our Almighty God and loved ones.

The Christmas season is about celebrating life and all the joy it brings with your friends and family. What better way is there to celebrate the season than with a traditional Christmas dinner? Every year families gather around the table to partake in delicious morsels while enjoying each others company. While a lot of the focus is on the delectable turkey or grandma’s famous pecan pie, there is another tradition that stands out in one’s mind – the Christmas centerpiece as the central focus of the table.

The reason why a Christmas centerpiece stands out in everybody’s mind is because it is the anchor of the table; it is a beautiful reminder of the Christmas spirit and everything the season represents. The traditional Christmas centerpiece was most similar to today’s advent wreath, which is often decorated with holly, poinsettias, pine cones and candles. Many will also add other familiar Christmas decorations, such as bows or Christmas tree ornaments. The Christmas table centerpiece is as old of a tradition as Christmas dinner itself, and people often wonder what exactly the components of the Christmas centerpiece represents.

A pine or balsam bough or any evergreen branch is wrapped into a circular wreath, which in itself represents many things. The green color symbolizes hope and new life, while the circular shape alludes to everlasting joy. Traditional Christmas wreath centerpieces were decorated with four candles, which marked the beginning and end of the Christmas season, otherwise known as the four weeks of Advent. The first candle would be lit on the Sunday closest to November 30th, and another one would be lit every Sunday until the last candle was lit on Christmas Eve. The candles not only represented weeks, however, but also hope, joy, love and peace.

Christians adopted decorating with holly from the Druids, who believed that the prickly green plant and its little red berries stood for fertility and eternal life. While the Druids believed that cutting down a holly tree was bad luck, Christians believed that decorating with holly brought good luck to the home. Nowadays people often refer to the red berries as symbols of Christ’s blood and the pointed leaves represent the crown of the thorns that was placed on Jesus’ head. The pine cones used to decorate wreaths are meant to symbolize the seeds of faith sown by Christ, and poinsettias represent genuine love.

No matter what you believe, decorating the table with a Christmas centerpiece is always a fun tradition to take part in. A beautiful centerpiece is bound to be the focal point of any table, and is something you can enjoy year after year. A Christmas centerpiece is a reminder to love, to be joyous and not to fight over the dinner rolls!

The benefits of a real Christmas tree are obvious; they smell good and look stunning when decorated with Christmas lights and ornaments. Posted by: Reader | Comments (0)

Christmas almost arrived. We are busy, running all the time and like usually, we find ourselves in the situation that Christmas arrived and we are not prepared yet, we don’t know what do and from where to start. Actually there are 2 main thinks that we have to do: to buy the Christmas gifts for our nearest and to get ready for House Christmas decorations
Now we are going to speak about house Christmas decorations which give the warm and the pleasant feeling to our hearts about this special holiday.  There are lots of decorations used at Christmas. The traditional ones have to be in each house no matter of our social position. Generally speaking they are: Christmas tree, wreaths, Christmas lights, garlands, Christmas ornaments, Christmas baskets gift (full with and/or sweets, chocolate, bakery), figurines. All these together are giving us the   magnificence of this holiday. Let’s find something about each one:

1- The First place, of course, is occupied by the Christmas tree! Natural or artificial, big or small, green, white, silver or gold, no mater of kind, size or color it’s giving us the peace feeling we need and  have to be in each house as the main house Christmas decorations.

2- Ornaments and Christmas tree ornaments are more than necessary. The shape, size color and numbers depend of each of us. Personalized Christmas ornaments are very much in vogue this year. Nearly we have the possibility to offer to our dears personalized ornaments that represent each one of us and make us and them more than happy.

3- The wreaths on the front door are a warm and blissful present of hospitality and as guests and family arrive to our home. Nearly everyone also likes to show a wreath on the inside of the door. Usually wreaths have a round or circular shape but not necessary. Also they can be artificial or natural. They can actually be used during the whole season as a house Christmas decorations in simple but elegant way.

4- For inside house decorations Christmas garlands are mainly used to decorate stairways, mantels, over the fireplace and banisters. They can be natural or artificial with twinkling lights and small ornaments or tinsel to shine. Doesn’t mater how they are or they look; the important think is to match with the rest of our Christmas house decoration as making a part of it.

5- Christmas lights are also of the main Christmas house decorations. There are in different forms and are also used in many ways to make our homes and/or business places shine and sparkle during the holidays. They can be colored or plain, twinkle or not, and may be single-stringed or multiple strings. To make Christmas holiday greater, the lights will be in house and outside house according with our possibilities.

6- Christmas baskets gift are not only a pleasant and testy gift; they are also a wonderful house Christmas decoration no matter if they are Christmas basket sweets and/or chocolate, Christmas basket fruits or bakery. Any how they will make our Christmas more healthy and sweet…

7- Christmas flowers arrangements – natural Christmas decorations. With their fantastic smell, wonderful colors the flowers are always in our life. How can we forget them especially in such important day? No way, they will make our house Christmas decorations more warm and beautifully.

8- In the end but not last are the figures. Big or small, they can be placed any place that is suitable and attractive enough giving us the possibility to offer a Christmas gift or to arrange house Christmas decorations according to each personality.

Each year, house Christmas decorations become more and more elaborated, more highly than before, to radiate the growing holiday spirit. As the decorative tradition evolves, it is always positive to find your own personal decorative way to please you and the others.

You are welcome to enjoy best house Christmas decorations and to decorate your home with our great artificial Christmas tree. Happy Holidays!

How Popular Christmas Carols Came About

Posted by: Reader | Comments (0)

Christmas Carols are sung mostly during the holiday season but most of us find ourselves humming them periodically during the course of the year. They come out of our mouths mindlessly and we rarely stop and wonder where they came from. Most revolve around the birth of Christ but the variety, history and popularity of Christmas carols is fascinating. Two of the most popular songs of all time are Christmas carols.

Silent Night – was a poem written by an Austrian priest, Joseph Mohr, in 1816. It became a Christmas carol on Christmas Eve in 1818 in Obendorf, Austria, a village near Salzburg, when Joseph decided he needed a carol for Christmas Eve services. He gave the poem to his friend Franz Xavier Gruber who wrote the melody in a few hours. It was composed for the guitar which was Joseph’s favorite instrument. It is the most famous Christmas carol of all time.

God Rest Ye Merry, Gentleman – was first published in William Sandy’s “Christmas Carols Ancient and Modern” in 1833. The author is unknown. Most people sing and interpret this song as God Rest Ye, Merry Gentleman thinking it means for merry fellows to rest. The rest wasn’t intended to mean lie down but to keep as you are, to stay merry. Rest ye merry means to remain peacefully content and so the true meaning of the song is hoping God will bestow this contentment on the gentleman. Even Dickens misinterpreted the comma as God Rest Ye, Merry Gentleman when he refers to it in “A Christmas Carol”. Scrooge didn’t like the carol being sung at his keyhole speaking of merriment. Bah Humbug.

What Child is This – with words written to the melody Greensleeves. It originated in Elizabethan times and is mentioned by Shakespeare in “The Merry Wives of Windsor” when it is played as traitors are hanged.

Jingle Bells was written by James Pierpont in 1857 for a Thanksgiving program at his church in Boston. Everyone liked it and so it was repeated at Christmas and it has been a Christmas song ever since.

O Little Town of Bethlehem was composed by Lewis Redner with words by Bishop Phillips Brooks in 1868. The Bishop had been to the Holy Land a few years earlier and was inspired by looking down on Bethlehem from the hills of Palestine at night.

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer – A twentieth century carol created for Montgomery Ward by Robert May. Montgomery Ward asked May to write a Christmas story to be given out to shoppers during the holidays. May was inspired by the tale of the Ugly Duckling and his own sad youth as a small, shy child and created the idea of the reindeer outcast shunned by the other reindeers because of his bright red nose. He wrote the story in rhyming couplets. It almost didn’t get published because his boss at Montgomery Ward thought that the public would view the red nose as caused by drinking. May eventually acquired the copyright for the song and it was recorded by Gene Autry in 1949. It is the second best selling song of all time with White Christmas being the first. Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer is also a popular Christmas ornament with a festive Christmas wreath hung around his neck.

Lynn Jebbia is the owner of Acadia Wreath Company. Acadia Wreath Company, based in Bar Harbor, Maine, handcrafts fresh Maine balsam fir Christmas wreaths, Christmas Centerpieces and Kissing Balls which are shipped directly to customers and corporate clients throughout the United States.

Interest Free Sofas

CLEARANCE SOFAS FROM AS LITTLE AS £399

Shopping online with a little savvy and common sense can save consumers a considerable sum. When shopping for large ticket items the saving can make a huge difference to your family finances, especially in these difficult times. While it is great to save a few quid here and there on fashion or Christmas gifts, it hardly amounts to a huge saving. However if you are shopping for something like a new sofa or a pair of sofas, using the internet can save you a small fortune.

The first thing you have to do is know where to look. Let’s start the bargain considering what you are trying to achieve. Maybe a three seat and two seat sofa pair, with quick deliver –so for fast delivery you would expect to pay more. Right?

Wrong! Not when you shop on-line.

To the High Street stores, quick delivery means you are expected to pay a premium for the convenience, otherwise you can wait for months for your new sofa to arrive. Everyone who has been through this process knows just how frustrating this is. The sofa companies know this and therefore know they can charge you a premium for the convenience of quick delivery.

So let’s shop online.  Five minutes of browsing time and the saving opportunities become apparent. In the clearance sofas area of a www.sofasinstock.co.uk we manage to find a great selection of sofas from as little as £399. After a look around, and obviously consulting with the better half, we settle on a 3 seat and  2 seat sofa set for only £1200 for the pair, giving a having of just over a grand – enough to pay for a holiday next year!

Better still this site can deliver to our home in four days!

So my foray into the bargain hunting sofas market has saved time, money, there is no long wait to get the sofas and the saving has been so large we are able to look at going abroad next year. Lovely.
