Taking a camping trip can be extremely fun and adventurous, but only if you are well prepared.  That is especially true when it comes to choosing the right sleeping bag for your journey into the woods.  If there is one thing you need to have during a good camping trip, it is a comfortable and dry night’s sleep, which is something only the right sleeping bag can do for you.  When you start to look for just the right type of sleeping bag, you should take into accout why you need it. Your selection will depend largely on whether you are sleeping on the ground, in a cabin, in a cooler climate, or a wetter environment.

Many people begin by deciding between a down or synthetic sleeping bag.  Down filled sleeping bags are extremely warm and comfortable and are great for camping outdoors.  Synthetic sleeping bags are just as warm but dry more quickly than down in the event of rain.  There are many other materials that also work well for at least three out of the four seasons in which you will most likely be camping.  They tend to be warmer for the cooler nights, and keep you cool on the warmer nights.

The material that is used for sleeping bags for camping use is normally either nylon or polyester.  Both are “breathable” materials (i.e. allow sufficient air in and out for comfort) but also keep you dry and warm.  You should avoid all cotton sleeping bags unless you have small children who may feel more comfortable in them.  Having a smooth lining is also a benefit for comfort. Linings made from non-cotton material such as taffeta or silk keep you comfortable inside the sleeping bag, which is just as important as the exterior considerations.

Another consideration for getting a great sleeping bag is the actual shape of the bag itself.  You have a choice of a cocoon shaped sleeping bag – which is very common – or you can choose one that is rectangular in shape.  The cocoon bags are a bit constricting but keep you quite snug, while the rectangular sleeping bags give you a larger space in which to move.

Lastly, you want to make sure that your sleeping bag can be easily “exited.” The zippers should open on each end, allowing you to get out quickly if necessary. Having double sided zippers with hooks to keep it closed while you sleep is essential as well.

Make sure you try out the sleeping bag before making the purchase by actually getting into it at the store. Although you may feel a bit silly, that is the only way you are actually going to know if it feels comfortable for you.  If the store doesn’t allow this then you should try it out as soon as you return home. Give it a thorough “going over” before committing to keeping it. One of the last things you want to do is to take a sleeping bag on a trip without knowing that you are going get a full and comfortable night’s sleep.

(1) Your Virtual Network Connection

(2) VPN Troubleshooting Error Messages

(3) VPN Modems Troubleshooting Guide

(4) VPN ISP Troubleshooting Guide.

(1) Your Virtual Private Network Connection

Having trouble connecting to the Internet at home try these steps before calling for help.

1. Do you have an IP address? Try ipconfig /all. If you do not have an IP address reboot your PC. If that doesnt work power cycle your Cable/DSL modem and routers and reboot your PC again after the network devices are up and stable. Be sure all of your network cables are plugged in tight.

2. After your PC reboots check that your network adapter is active and packets are flowing. Perform the ipconfig /all check again.

3. Check your connectivity by pinging several Internet sites. If that does not work, ping the loopback address 127.0.0.1. If that fails, your adapter may not be working or it is not properly configured.

To check your IP address. From command prompt enter ipconfig /all (as shown in the picture) you should see an IP Address and several DNS Server addresses. The domain name system (DNS) is the way that Internet domain names are located and translated into IP addresses and is required for browsing the Internet.

Ping 127.0.0.1 – loopback Test (as shown in the picture). The loopback test is used to check if the IP stack is responding. If it times out or you get an error the problem may occur if any one or more of the following conditions is true:

*The TCP drivers are corrupted

*The network adapter is not working

*Another service is interfering with IP

Check your network adapter, click the Start menu, Settings, Control Panel, and select Network Connections. Double click on the Local Area Connection or the Wireless Adapter whichever one you are using. Be sure its Connected. If you have multiple network cards disable the one you are not using.

There should be Packets displayed in both the Sent and Received counters. If the Received counter is 0 check that the adapter has an IP address. Select Properties.

Click the check boxes for Show icon and Notify me below. A twin PC icon will appear on the lower right portion of the taskbar in the tray area and will flash while sending and receiving packets. You can place your mouse over the icon to get the status and click on it to get more details.

Tracert displays the connection path to the target location and the number of hops. Each hop is the trip from one router to another. Tracert is a handy tool both for understanding where problems are in the network and for determining latency between hops.

Ping is used to determine whether a host exists and is active on the network and can determine the round trip time to the device. You can enter a host name or an IP address if you know it. If the request times out then the host is not reachable because it’s offline or there is a problem with the connection. Try several sites, if none work then ping the loopback address 127.0.0.1 Also, if your DNS is not working or properly configured you can only ping the host with an IP address and you will not be able to browse the Internet.

If you are having intermittent problems, perform a ping –t for 5 to 6 minutes then hit CTRL C to see the results of the test to determine if you are dropping network packets (lost packets). If you are, this usually indicates an ISP problem or Cable/DSL modem problem. See VPN ISP Troubleshooting Guide

(2) VPN Troubleshooting Error Messages

Q1 Error Message: Remote Host not responding: or Unable to Resolve the IP address of the Remote Server

Cause: This indicates that the Contivity VPN Switch never responded to the connection attempt. The problem could either be with the Contivity switch itself, (switch may be down) or your machine may be having a problem resolving the IP address.

Action: Try pinging your destination name (Example: VPN.something.com). If you received a message that says “Request Timed Out” from the ping command, call your ISP to make sure that their DNS is functioning correctly.

Q2 Error Message: Maximum number of sessions reached

Cause: This indicates that the maximum number of users for the account you are using are currently logged on.

Action: If you are the only user with VPN to your account, it is possible to get this error if you restarted a connection immediately after losing the dial-up connection to your ISP. This is because the Contivity VPN Switch takes up to one hour to determine that your connection has been dropped and log you off from your account.

Q3 Error Message: Login failed, Please consult the switch log for further information

Cause: The User Name or the Password is incorrect for the user name entered.

Action: Verify that the User Name you entered is correct and retype the Password before trying the connection again.

Q4 Error Message: The physical connection has been lost

Cause: Your connection to your ISP was disconnected.

Action: Re-establish your connection to your ISP before you re-establish the Contivity connection to the remote network.

Q5 Error Message: The secure Contivity connection has been lost

This message can result due to a number of different reasons, and there are several recommended actions you can take to try and re-connect.

Cause(s):

If you receive this error before the client connects then something is blocking a necessary port (such as ESP port 50). This can result if your firewall is not configured properly and is restricting the necessary port(s).

If you receive this error during a connection and you suddenly get the error it may mean one of the following:

1. Something closed the connection;

2. The VPN Contivity switch where you were trying to connect to thought your client was down or timed out;

3. Your local ISP did something that interrupted your network connection long enough for the VPN Contivity switch to identify your client was not responding;

4. The VPN Contivity switch that you are connected to has either logged your connection off or the Switch is no longer responding, or a device that does not support IPSEC NAT Traversal is causing the connection failure.

Action(s):

1. Try re-establishing the Contivity connection by clicking the Connect button. If this works, the connection was probably lost due to the Idle Timeout configured on the Contivity VPN Switch. If no data is transferred through the Contivity connection for a long period of time, 15 minutes or more, the Contivity VPN Switch automatically disconnects the connection;

2. If you were unable to successfully re-establish the Contivity Connection, the dial-up connection may be preventing data from traveling between the Contivity VPN Client and the Contivity VPN Switch. Hang up the dial-up connection and reconnect before you try to re-establish a connection to the Contivity VPN Switch;

3. If you are still unable to connect to the Contivity VPN Switch, open a Command Prompt and try pinging the Contivity VPN Switch using the host name or address that you specified in the Destination field.

(a) If you receive a “Destination Unreachable error” there is a routing problem at the ISP.

(b) If you receive a “Request Timed Out” error message, the Contivity VPN Switch is probably not available, and you should contact your Network Administrator.

4. If you keep getting this message and are unable to connect, then it may indicate that the Contivity VPN Switch is unable to communicate with the client because it is behind some kind of NAT (Network Address Translation) device. NAT (Network Address Translation) Traversal allows a number of devices on a private network to access the Internet simultaneously without each requiring its own external IP address. Most hotels and airports that provide Internet connectivity use NAT to connect to the Internet.

Q6 Error Message: Cannot Alter Routing Table

Cause: Message means the you the user, an application on your machine, or your ISP attempted to change the routing table via an ICMP redirect attempt and it was not successful. The client detects the attempt to make the change, determines it’s a security breach and shuts down the client’s connection. Any time you make a VPN connection, you cannot change the routing table, because the VPN Client views this as a security risk and you will get disconnected.

Some applications require an ICMP redirection in order to work such as a game or other third party software.

Action: If you receive this error and cant connect due to an ICMP redirect attempt, shut down any other applications you are using which may be causing the ICMP redirect attempt. If it is the ISP that is doing it, you will need to block the ICMP redirect request. You can identify that ICMP redirect has occurred, by seeing a message saying there has been an IP address routing table change.

Q7 Error Message: Receiving Banner Text Information

Cause: Message means you are experiencing a Banner Sock issue, and will see a window displaying the “Receiving Banner Text” message and then gets disconnected.

Actions:

1. Disable the firewall completely to test. This is a port 500 issue and often means that the you have a personal Firewall that is blocking port 500 or you have a router that does not support IPSEC pass-through, and the you are connecting to a VPN switch that does not have NAT Traversal enabled.

2. If using wireless, temporarily remove Wireless from the picture and focus on the Ethernet card. Check the Ethernet card speed and duplex parameters and then make sure that the hub, switch, or router that is on the other end has the same parameters. If not, the VPN connection will drop as the link goes up and down, or due to a large number of errors on the port from a duplex and or speed mismatch.

3. Firewall that blocks the connection, such that system will crash. (This will rarely happen) NSDF (Norton Symantec Desktop Firewall) and NSPF (Norton Symantec Personal Firewall) can do this though, if you do not trust the IP address of the VPN connection.

If you do not trust the VPN address of the VPN client, the firewall will cause you to crash. In your Internet browser click on “Tools > Internet Options > Security > Trusted Sites > Sites” and add the destination VPN address(es) to your trusted sites.

Speed Up Your PC Easily Scan, Repair and Fix Errors Speed & Optimize PC, Free Download

Q8 Error Message: You already have the maximum number of adapters installed

Cause: You may have installed to many virtual adapters in your IP Stack

Actions:

1. Remove any unnecessary adapters;

2. Create multiple boot scenarios disabling the adapters that are not required for that function;

3. You may also get Banner Sock errors on Win 95 & 98 units with this condition;

4. For more information, see this Microsoft article: KB217744: Unable to Bind Protocols to More Than 5 Network Adapters (copy and paste into the search tool bar > enter).

Q9 Upgrade Errors: The following are some errors that may occur when trying to upgrade / install the Nortel VPN Client 4.65

Error (1): Failed to get Registry key value for NT_IPSECSHM

Cause: This is caused because an important registry key that cannot be found in the system registry.

Actions:

1. Uninstall and Reinstall the VPN Software

Error (2): Login Failure due to: Driver Failure

Cause: This is generally caused by either not having Admin rights to the PC or by trying to install/use a Nortel VPN client that predates the operating system.

Actions:

1. Ensure that you have admin rights to the PC.

2. Update/Install the most current version of the Nortel VPN client.

Error (3): Create socket failed with 10048.

Cause: This problem generally will occur whenever you have another VPN client software installed on the system. The most noted conflicting clients are: AOL, Cisco VPN Client(s), SSH Sentinel and PGP.

Actions:

1. Removing these clients will in most cases, resolve the issue.

(3) VPN Modems Troubleshooting Guide

Q1 Are Cable Modems supported for VPN Access?

Yes, you can use cable modems for VPN access. However you must be aware of the following conditions and be able to work within them:

*Some cable modems require that you log into an NT network to get authenticated.

*Some cable modems use a client similar to the Extranet Client for VPN and both will not run at the same time.

*Some cable modem Contracts/Acceptable Use Policies specify that you cannot use them for business purposes or they want to charge you another fee to use them for business purposes. Make sure you read your contract thoroughly.

*Your Cable modem provider is your ISP. Please see the VPN-connection-guide.html”>ISP Troubleshooting Guide for more information.

Q2 Why does my modem seem to perform erratically?

Always make sure that you do not let the operating system select a generic modem. If required, go to the appropriate web site for the vendor of the modem and get the updated INF file so that the proper parameters are configured for the modem.

Q3 Why do I always seem to get a slower connection speed than others with the same modem?

1. Always check the modem configuration to verify that its maximum speed has been selected.

2. It is common when auto-installing modems that the highest speed is not selected automatically.

3. Do not check the box that says run at maximum speed only.

Q4 I plugged my modem into the phone line at the hotel or customers office and now it does not work.

Always make sure that the phone line you are plugging into when visiting somewhere is an analog line not a digital one. Plugging into a digital line can permanently damage your modem, requiring a replacement unit. To avoid these situations please contact the local site phone support personnel.

Q5 Why cant I get a 56Kb V.90 connection from some locations that I go to?

Here are some of the reasons why you might not get a 56K connection:

1. You are located more than 3 ½ miles from your telephone companys central office (CO).

2. A SLICK or Subscriber Loop System is used in your area.

3. You are calling from a digital PBX system, which creates a Digital to Analog conversion and then an Analog to Digital conversion.

4. Your line contains digital pads or Robbed Bit Signaling (RBS), which can degrade your connection speeds.

5. Your wiring may be of poor quality.

6. Your modem’s firmware may not be up-to-date. Check that your modem has the newest V.90 code installed with all the patches from the vendor’s web site.

Q6 Why cant I get higher speed on my 56K v.90 modem into some NAG?

Here are some possible reasons:

1. A 56k v.90 modem is asymmetric by design where download speed can be as much as 56k but upload speed will be up to 33.6bps. For 56k to work, there must be only one analog-to-digital (A/D) conversion in your local phone loop. Thus when modems at both ends are analogue, 56k speeds will never be achieved as most PSTN exchanges run digital routing between the exchanges.

2. Some NAG sites use analog phone lines with Cisco and standard 56k modems, and most PC’s dial-ups use a similar modem. Between the two modems, it limits the download speed to about 33.6kbps maximum.

3. Also, many users might experience lower connection speeds due to other reasons, such as more poor line quality. These factors will also contribute to the quality and speed of the line.

(4) VPN ISP Troubleshooting Guide

Q1 If you are getting the message “Unable to Resolve the IP address of the Remote Server. Verify the Host Name in the destination field is correct.” when trying to connect with the Extranet Client.

Try pinging your destination name (Example: VPN.something.com) and if it fails call your ISP to make sure that their DNS is functioning correctly.

Q2 Why do I get No Domain Available when dialing my ISP?

On your Internet Service Providers (ISP) dial connection. Right click the mouse and select the properties button. Click on the Server Type tab and make sure that the Log On To Network box is unchecked.

Q3 Why do I seem to be running slowly through my VPN connection?

Try turning off the Software Compression option on your Internet Service Providers (ISP) dial connection as the VPN client has it’s own compression. Right click the mouse and select the properties button. Click on the Server Type tab and uncheck the

Q4 I keep getting busy signals when trying to connect to my ISP, what should I do?

Contact your ISP giving the numbers you are trying to connect to. Many times you will find that can give you an alternate number not published yet that will work just fine. If not you may need to find another ISP that provides better service.

Q5 When configuring the dial icon for my ISP what should I put in the DNS/WINS settings?

Your ISP should supply you with the DNS/WINS settings of your dial connection. Most only give you DNS, in this case just leave the WINS settings blank.

Q6 Why when I load the Extranet Client on my PC and Winpoet is installed on my machine it crashes or does not work properly?

There are issues running Winpoet software on the PC with the Nortel Extranet (VPN) Client.

To repair your system, boot in safe mode and uninstall the Winpoet Software.

A simple solution is to install the Linksys BEFSR41 hardware router. It has a firmware PPPOE connector, which eliminates Winpoet from the PC and provides the added benefit a NAT firewall with the ability to hook up to three other PCs.

A second option is to find a PPPOE Client that does not interfere with VPN Clients.

Once you have decided to create a home bar, you have to think about the details.  Will you have track lighting?  Is there going to be a draft machine?  Will your bar stools swivel?  These all-important questions can be overwhelming.  Having a bar theme can help make the task of designing a lot easier.  Take a look at some of my favorite bar themes and some tips on how to make your themed bar truly authentic.

Irish Pub—One of the most popular bar themes is the Irish Pub.  Rich in history and Irish roots, a pub should have the look of a rustic, rugged drinking spot tucked into the corner of some quaint little Irish town.  The lighting is often dim and the main theme of décor is dark, shiny woods.  A heavy polished bar with brass railings should be the central item in your Irish bar and some rustic, worn in swivel top bar stools made from heavy quality wood should invite guests in for a pint.  Complete you Irish Pub with some great native brews on tap and maybe a space reserved for pool or darts.  The Irish Pub look is an easy one to achieve and a fun one to enjoy.

Tiki Lounge—Often the sought-after look for an outdoor bar, the Tiki Lounge bar is also a popular choice for home bars.  To achieve the Tiki look, a grass skirt bar is a must-have as are bamboo bar stools and a thatched roof hut.  Adding small touches like stringed lights, paper lanterns and drink umbrellas make your Tiki bar all the more authentic.  Invite guests to your Tiki Lounge either poolside or in a basement area and be sure to remember the colorful island tunes.  With a slushy ice machine and the mixed drinks flowing, you will be in paradise in no time.

Retro Swing Spot—Offer guests a throw back entertainment spot with a retro styled bar.  A high gloss bar surface with funky retro lines and shiny red stripes will remind guests of days gone by.  Complete the bar’s look with amazing vinyl seated swivel bar stools in chrome finish and you’ve got a look right out of Grease!  Accent your retro lounge with some vintage Coca Cola posters, a funky juke box and a retro soda machine and you’ve got a truly groovy set up.  Stock your bar with sodas and floats and offer martinis in retro styles glasses for the finishing touches to your new retro hang out.

Sports Bar—For the manly man, a sports bar in the home can be a dream come true.  To outfit your sports bar in high fashion, a bar top in the colors of your favorite team would match perfectly with your framed memorabilia hanging on the walls.  Provide armed bar stools and perhaps a secondary seating area with cushy chairs to watch the game in.  Don’t forget the beautiful flat-screen TV mounted in the corner to provide the entertainment.  Decorate with a neon sign or your favorite player’s jersey and give your bar an authentic team feel.  Finally, make sure the drinks are flowing from your mini keg refrigerator and be sure to have plenty of peanuts and pretzels available for when the guys come over for the game.

Whatever the bar style you decide to go with, one thing is true: your bar should be a reflection of you and your family and friends.  Keep special favorites on hand to show your guests that you truly care about their entertainment.  Most of all enjoy setting up your home bar and giving it the special touches that will truly make it your own.

If you have ever tried yoga, then you know that it is an exercise as well as a way of life. Yoga can enhance your body’s physical well-being as well as your mental awareness. In order to practice yoga, you will need one of the basic yoga tools: a yoga mat. But before you buy any yoga mat, there are a few things that you need to take into consideration. Let’s take a closer look at some of these things.

As part of yoga, you are constantly stretching and changing positions, trying to achieve different poses. You need to provide an appropriate foundation for all this movement. One of the most important features of a yoga mat is its stability. You don’t want one that is going to be sliding around, causing you to fall. It must be able to maintain a good hold for your exercise purposes. In addition, you will be sweating from the activity, so a mat that will absorb the perspiration you produce will also be a feature to look for. This will prevent slipping on a wet mat.

It will be your personal choice as to how padded the mat will be. Extra padding will provide more cushioning when jumping from pose to pose. You may need extra padding due to a physical problem or injury. The length of your body will dictate the dimensions of the mat you purchase. Generally, a yoga mat should cover the area outlined by your body in a lying position. The most common size is 24×72 inches. There are many different colors available to choose from and you should be able to find one to your liking.

Yoga mats are also available in non-toxic and bio-friendly styles. This will provide you with safety and also take into account your health. Since yoga focuses on health, it would only make sense that your mat should possess no ozone depleting substances and be PVC free. Since you will need to carry it to your classes, you will also want one that is lightweight and easy to transport. Also, be sure to check that it is easy to clean. And, of course, finding one that is acknowledged by teachers as a good foundation to work on is always recommended.

There are basically five different types of mats available today. The cotton mat is able to absorb perspiration and provides a cooling effect. The sticky mat, a popular choice, is one that will stay put and is especially useful for power yoga, where there is a lot of movement. This is a thin mat and needs to be sprinkled with a little water to activate its stability feature. The ultra double thickness mat is a sticky mat with double the cushioning. Although the cushioning effect is useful when jumping from one pose to another, it will also make the mat bulkier. Travel mats are very thin and easy to fold, but they are not as comfortable due to the slim cushioning they possess. These are perfect for the ‘on the go’; stick it in the corner of my car type of individual. Meditation mats are used for relaxation and come with a pillow.

Depending on the type of yoga you plan on concentrating on, and some individual preferences, you should be able to find a sturdy yoga mat to your liking. The newest mats are made of open cell, natural rubber, which not only provides a non-slip surface but can absorb moisture as well. By choosing the appropriate mat, you will provide yourself with an environment in which you can work your way to the spirituality that yoga has to offer.

Guide to Basement Bar

Posted by: Reader | Comments (0)

A basement bar is a good idea to enjoy an evening with friends and family or even have a party. There are a few important things one needs to take care of before building a basement bar. These steps will help make the bar a real good place to enjoy the drinks as well as party in the basement.

Basement space

The first thing towards building a basement bar is to ensure that there is a basement in the house and that it is suitable enough to accommodate a bar. Although a bar may not require too much space, the basement must have enough seating space and more if the place is to be used for a night party as well.

Setting up a Basement Bar

A basement bar can either be a ready-made bar or one can hire a carpenter or an expert to build a bar. Bar building is not recommended for those interested in setting up a bar as quickly as possible. Getting a carpenter to do the work will also enable the homeowner to come up with any extra requirements or design specifics that are otherwise not found in a normal bar. Seating arrangements can also be accordingly modified.

Refrigeration Requirements

It is a good idea to provide for refrigeration in the basement especially for drinks like beer. It makes better sense to serve chilled drinks straight from the bar than to buy bottles from shops when someone comes visiting. The bar will be used to its optimum if there is provision for refrigeration in the basement itself.

Seating Arrangements

In case one plans to have a night of poker or Monday night Football, the seating arrangement in the basement bar must match the requirements. A place where friends can relax while enjoying their drinks and the television will be the ideal setting. Comfy couches or bar stools along with a poker table or television will make up for an ideal basement bar. A television to watch all those basketball and soccer matches along with friends who would also join for a drink provides for a great way to unwind.

Digital Memory Buying Guide

Posted by: Reader | Comments (0)

Digital memory devices let you store and retrieve data whenever you need. They are compatible with most electronic goods. Many consumers prefer digital memory devices because of their small size, durability and portability. There are many different types of digital memory devices in the market. It is always good to consider which kind of digital memory device is compatible with your electronics before choosing one.

How does a memory card store data?

A memory card functions electronically and uses flash memory, also called flash RAM, to store data on non-volatile memory chips. Memory cards have the ability to electrically erase or reprogram any recorded data.

What are the different types of memory devices available in the market?

CompactFlash (CF):

CompactFlash is in the size of a matchbox and is used in a variety of electronic devices, including PDAs, digital cameras, digital voice recorders and set-top television boxes. There are two models: Type I and Type II. The latter is thicker and provides expandable memory options. Type I cards will often fit in a standard laptop PC slot with the use of an inexpensive adapter and are also compatible with Compact Flash Type II slots. CompactFlash cards can be used in a PCMCIA slot if you have an adaptor. Otherwise, you need a device with a CompactFlash Type I slot.

SmartMedia (SM):

The SmartMedia is often called as SSFDC cards (Solid-State Flash Digital Cards). They are as thin as credit cards and about the size of a matchbox. They are specifically designed for portable digital devices such as digital cameras, portable MP3 players, PDAs and the like. SmartMedia is available with storage capacities of up to 128 megabytes. Some devices have slots for both Smart Media and CompactFlash cards. If this is not the case, you need a SmartMedia slot to use a SmartMedia card.

MultiMedia Card (MMC):

The MMC is a postage stamp-sized card used in mobile phones, pagers, video cameras, global positioning systems, portable MP3 players and PDAs. Their storage capacity ranges from 256 MB to 4 GB. Devices that use Secure Digital cards will also accept MultiMedia Cards.

Secure Digital (SD):

The Secure Digital memory card succeeded the MMC card. It is slightly thicker than the MMC card, has additional storage capacity and a digital copyright security scheme to store copyrighted data. This digital memory device is popular among many new PDAs, organizers, phones, and MP3 players. Devices that use MultiMedia Cards may also accept Secure Digital cards.

Memory Stick:

The memory stick is a storage device developed exclusively by Sony. It is most compatible with Sony products like digital cameras, portable MP3 players and PDAs. They have a storage capacity of 256 MB to 8 GB and support 1.1 and 2.0 USB for better connectivity. There is a special version of the Memory Stick with digital-rights management features for certain devices. This card is known by one of the following names – Magic Gate Memory Stick, MagicGate Memory Stick Duo Media, or Memory Stick PRO Duo Media. Users can share and transport data via their computer’s USB port with the help of Micro Vault USB Storage Media.

xD Picture Card:

The xD-Picture card is the smallest storage format developed for recording, storing and transporting audio-visual information. In addition, xD-Picture Cards are designed to minimize power consumption and extend the battery life of your digital devices. You can use xD cards in a CompactFlash slot if you have an adaptor. Some devices have slots for both xD and SmartMedia cards. If the device does not have both slots, only a device with an xD slot will work with an xD Picture card.

What are Memory Card Readers and Adapters?

Memory card adapters maximize a memory card’s performance by increasing data transfer speeds to 60 MB/sec. Besides the potential for expansion, memory card adapters have the ability to transfer data without having to connect the device to your computer with a cable. The memory card readers read most of the memory cards including all SD cards, CF cards, MMC series and much more. Most of the readers also offer writing capability and thus they function as a pen drive.

Which brands are most popular?

Memory cards produced by digital device manufacturers, like Sony and Olympus, tend to be quite popular with consumers. If you are concerned about the speed of your digital memory device, opt for brands like Lexar, SimpleTech or SanDisk. Lexar high speed cards, SimpleTech ProX cards and SanDisk Ultra cards have significantly higher speeds than most standard memory cards.

What are the handling instructions for using a memory card?

Do not remove a memory card from a device while data is being processed. It is advisable to switch off the operating device before removing a memory card. Also, you should remove a memory card from any device that is low in battery charge. Avoid touching the metal connectors of memory cards, especially those on Secure Digital cards, Smart Media cards and XD cards, to avoid electrostatic discharge of data.

Color Temperature:

HID Color temperature refers to the degrees (K) , which simply the measures of the color for the lighting output, like golden yellow, white, crystal white, blue …

Degree (k) refers only to the color, while lumen refers to the lighting intensity. So the higher the color temperature (degrees K) doesn’t mean a higher light intensity (lumen). Here is the summary for the common color temperature on the market —

3000K (Golden Yellow) , 4300K (Bright White), 5000K (white), 6000K (Crystal White),8000K (Crystal Blue), 10000K (Aqua Blue), 12000K (Purple-Blue).

5000K or 6000K are the most popular color temperature, and if you are planning to buy the hid kits with 10000K or over, please be careful about the legal issue in your country. Most of the 12000K or 14000K (purple) are using off road only.

Warranty:

You can get the HID Kits on EBay or other auction sites at a cheap price, but warranty issues would always be a big problem. So buy it from a reliable shop or online store would be the best choice because you will have a better follow up for the warranty issues.

A Guide to Villa Pool Heating

Posted by: Reader | Comments (0)

Every spring and summer without fail one issue can be guaranteed to arise in our business – heated private villa pools. As someone in the industry we have had the range of issues from pools being too cold to pools being too hot. Unfortunately pool heating is not an exact science and of course one man’s refreshing swim is another mans ice bath. Below is a brief outline of what you can expect and what you need to watch when ordering and paying for additional pool heating.

Pool heating is usually an additional extra when renting a villa. Not all properties have this facility and there is usually a charge for this which is dependant on the property being rented. Normally, the minimum period for pool heating is seven days and thereafter the charge will be pro rota.

Many villas have a pool cover and it is recommended that if the villa has this facility, the cover be used at night as this does help with the effectiveness of any pool heating. Unsurprisingly, if the cover is left off, no complaints regarding the effectiveness of the pool heating and the temperature of the pool will be entertained. For villa owners a pool cover is recommended however villa renters should be aware that not all pools come with a cover.

Despite what some people on holiday would have you believe the weather can have an effect on the temperature of the pool and renters should be aware that heavy rain or excessive cold may nullify the effects of pool heating. Also it is unrealistic to expect the pool heating to warm the water more that 8ºC above the average air temperature. Therefore if the average air temperature is say 12ºc then the pool temperature is unlikely to reach a comfortable temperature (most notable during the winter months). It is also important to be aware that if the pool is not used, for example as a result of bad weather etc the pool heating charges can not reasonable be expected to be refunded. The expense of heating a pool is incurred in the first couple of days therefore the villa renters will not receive a refund irrespective of the weather and what temperature the pool reaches.

However, where pool heating has been paid for and the management company identify that the heating system has unexpectedly failed the renter will be should be awarded a pro-rata refund – provided that the villa renter informs his/her lettings agent or villa owner/property manager of the failure at that time. There is no point in coming home from your holidays and then complaining about the pool heating.

The information above is based on the experiences of Select Resorts, a UK based villa rentals company and is only offered as guidelines to people renting villas either through a professional lettings agent or direct from an owner and are not legally binding.

Michael Reilly is Marketing Manager of Select Resorts, a lettings agency who offer a range of Quinta do Lago Villas and La Manga Club Villas

Guide To Buying Famous Designer Shoes

Posted by: Reader | Comments (0)

Designer shoes. Upon hearing those two words, many cringe and immediate think of the buckets of money that will be shelled out in a couple of minutes. True enough, designer shoes can be really expensive especially when you are talking about such famous shoes designer labels such as Prada, Blahnik and Ferragamo.

Still, despite the price difference, there is really not much difference between a famous shoes designer label and a shoes designed with no label. In fact, the only thing that often set these two apart is the fact that the former has centuries of brand name supporting the product while the latter is probably designed by up and coming designers.

Combine the designer and the local labels

At present, most people who have learned to shop wisely combine pieces from famous designer labels as well as those from the ‘local labels. Classic styles are often a great buy when it comes to shopping in a designer labels. This is because the workmanship, the quality and of course the design can be used over and over again for over a couple of years.

Non-designer labels however may be considered when buying the latest fads and designs in shoes. This way, you will not be stuck with a pair shoes that is worth thousands after the crazy fad has blown over.

Still, there are also some non-designer brands that make really good pairs not only in terms of the design but also in the quality. When you have already mastered the market, you will be able to determine the quality buys, whether designer or not.

Cost is not just the answer

The designs of famous shoes designers may cost a great deal of money but it does not mean that they will look just as expensive when you wear them. In buying a pair of shoes, always remember to choose the style that fits the structure of your feet and not the cost or the design label. You can buy the most expensive pair but if it does not look good on your feet, your money has just gone to waste.

Buy what you need

In considering what you are going to buy, first determine the kind of pair that you really need and will be using every time. For instance, if you are the kind of person who is always on rubber shoes, then it is better to buy a pair made by a famous shoes designer and manufacturer like Nike or Adidas. You will get value for your money because you use the pair every time. You need a good sturdy pair to last you along time.
