When it comes to a perfectly decorated home, accents are the main necessity. When it comes to color, liveliness, design, and style, accents are where it’s at. From your wavy curtains, to your elegant lampshades, from your bar stool cushions, to your back room pillows, here are some affordable home accents that have a huge impact on your interior design.

Double-Duty Throws:

During the colder winter months, never forget to add a bright, cozy throw over your couch. This is a great opportunity to spread color and provide warmth.

Room Runners:
In your boring wooden hallways, stingy bathroom floors, and large, cold kitchens, add an elongated, flattering rug to add some design. This will brighten up your floors and provide a comfortable walking space to anyone visiting your home.

Pillow Make-Overs:

Who says pillows are only for sleeping with? Nothing perks up your sofa and bedroom more than fancy pillows of all sizes. It’s a great way to add character and give everyone in the abode a sense of home.

Wallpapers and Paints:
White is too boring for you. Add some flair with different tints and hues, and don’t stay restrained either. Go wild and mix match colors from other rooms, add textures, and drips, develop stylistic choices regarding complementary colors and contrasts. Think about wallpaper as well. Sometimes, that’s all a room needs to grab the eye. You might use it for the whole wall, or simply use it as an accent. For this you can paste over a single feature such as a wall fixture, light switch, door panel, or a shelving unit. This will definitely add character.

Basic Overview of Home Beer Brewing

Basic Overview of Home Beer Brewing

Home brewing beer as complex as it may seem, is not as complicated as you may think. The process of home brewing your own beer is basically broken down in a minimal amount of steps in contrast to the seemingly intimidating steps that many advanced home brewers prefer to take.

The basic process of beer home brewing can be broken down into to steps starting with getting your ingredients, which consist of water, grains, yeast and hops. Then after the grains are crushed, the steeping of them begins. The steeping process is basically like making tea, the only difference is that the starches in the grains need to be converted into sugars that can be used, or fermented by yeast. So, basically, the entire home brewing process is converting sugars from barley or other grain malt then fermenting those sugars into alcohol and carbon dioxide through the beer fermentation process. That’s it.

Now, back to the whole “steeping” process. There are a few specifics wanted to point out in regards to the conversion process of the sugars. These sugars actually start out as starches in the grains. It all happens at a temperature of around 165 degrees Fahrenheit. What is really going on is there are actual enzymes inside the grain which, when activated at the right temperature, will go after the starches and convert them into sugars. This process is all made possible through the “malting” process of grains for home brewing beer where the grains are soaked until they are about to sprout or germinate. This is the moment the “maltsters” quickly dry the grains in order to freeze the process in its tracks. Now, left “frozen” in the grain, are the enzymes and starches. These will not become active again until you, the home brewer, begin the “sugar rest” or steeping of the grains part of the beer home brewing process.

After the grains are steeped, they are rinsed of all the sweet fermentable sugars. The remaining sweet liquid is called “wort”. Soon this home brew wort will be transferred to the brewing kettle and brought to a boil. The home brewing process will be under way. The boiling process of homebrewing has a lot to do with releasing oils from the hops in order to provide proper bitterness, flavor and aroma to your home brewed beer. In addition, the boiling process will help sanitize the wort.

Once the boiling of the home brew wort is completed, the wort is cooled to around 70 degrees or so then transferred to a homebrew fermenter and the yeast is added. It takes about 5 days for the yeast to complete the task of “primary fermentation”, producing the alcohol and carbon dioxide.

That’s just about it. Following primary fermentation when homebrewing would be a stage called secondary fermentation where the homebrewed beer is separated from the yeast on the bottom of the fermenter and transferred into another glass fermenter in order to allow for clearing of the homebrewed beer.

We are awful to our feet, yet we would be devastated to loose or impair either or both of them. Our feet deserve our support and care before we injure or harm them in some way. We can do this with simple steps to make them feel better and look better. Our feet have often been mentioned as a way to heal our insides so why not give them a little added attention.

A professional pedicure is something many people have found to very enjoyable, not just to the feet but as a relaxation tool for the entire body. A professionally done pedicure is fairly expensive though but good news, you can enjoy the same results at home using just bit of time, money and supplies.

The first step in the home pedicure is to remove any nail polish that may be on the toe nails. Then here comes one of the good parts – soaking. Add Epsom or bath salts to warm-hot water and allow your feet to soak away for at least five or ten minutes. Read a book or magazine or simply relax. After the time is up take one foot out and brush with a foot brush to remove dead skin and soften. Place the foot back in the water when through and continue the process with the other foot.

Next, will be a foot scrub lotion that will be rubbed in. This special foot lotion will continue to soften the feet especially in typically rough or harden areas like the heels or sides of the toes. When both feet are done, a rubbing a pumice stone on the feet will take the remaining rough or dead skin that may still be there.

At this point the feet will nee to be taken out of the water and dried with a soft, clean towel and massaged with a nice foot lotion of your choosing.

When the lotion has been worked in completely, turn to the toe nails. Using clippers and a file, trim and shape the nails. When the nails are shapely, push the cuticles back gently with a cuticle stick. If you do not often care for your feet the cuticles may be large and the bunched-up extra cuticle can be trimmed away using cuticle scissors, just be careful not to take too much off.

When the nails and cuticles look good, seal in the new beauty of your toe nails with a base coat that is either clear or opaque. This will smooth out any imperfections in the nail such as bumps or ridges. The base coat will not only make a smooth surface on the nail allowing it to look better, but will provide a good foundation for adding nail color. Only add nail color after you are sure that the base coat is completely dried. Several coats of nail color will make the finished product even better and will last much longer. If nail polish is accidentally applied to the surrounding skin, be sure to clean off immediately since the nail polish will stain the skin and prove to be difficult in removing the longer it stays on. Using a small piece of tissue, paper towel or cotton swab, dip into nail polish remover and then use to remove any accidental and unwanted marks made with the nail polish. Not necessary, but a nice finished look will be to apply a clear sealer for preventing chipping and scuff marks on the painted toes as well as to keep the look for a longer period of time.

Break out those open-toe shoes and show off your beautiful new feet.

giving yourself a pedicure is not only what your feet deserve but also what you deserve. Take the time out of a busy day to treat yourself to relaxing and beneficial efforts on the feet and toe nails.

The installation of water fountains for beautification of indoors and outside goes back a very long time in history. Their evidences can still be seen in the old royal buildings and palaces of the kings and queens across the globe. They appear in different size and shapes, some specifically carved out by designers on unique stones with styles and statuettes celebrated in their era.

Water fountains are more than just mere materials of beautification. Water itself is known to heal so many human diseases and ailments.

Many urban homes today possess a fountain, be it a table top or a wall fountain in the indoors, or a garden fountain in the outdoors. It offers an ultimate backdrop draw when you are hosting functions or in conversation with company. It provides a dazzling scenic back-drop in your indoors if installed in the best place with the precise lighting and area.

Today as decor in your home retailers are more and more becoming well-known, even wall water fountains are being modified to all shapes and sizes to suit in nearly all places and surroundings. They are available in numerous materials from stone or ceramic to glass or slate, even plastic. Some of the more expensive pieces are themselves rare artifacts that add a classy look to your home when installed in the right place among right surroundings. They are available in numerous looks from the current to the sophisticated and sometimes even the rustic appearance. You can go for the best one that suits your furnishings and suits your spending budget. They are a piece of cake on installation and do not need much maintenance except (blank) on the water amount and flow regularly and cleaning every several weeks.

When going to buy water fountains for your home keep the following things in mind so as to choose the right one:

* Size – There is a huge selection of different sizes of water fountains in the marketplace. But you should be certain about the size you want. Study the place and surroundings of the place where you are likely to add a water fountain. Determine the type and size of the fountain that will be ideal to the surroundings.

Take the weight of the water fountain into account while choosing your version. You should not pick out a model that you will not be able to use because of its hefty weight.

* Location – The water fountain can also depend on the kind of site that you want to set up it in. It can range from a table top fountain or a wall fountain for the indoors to a huge garden fountain for the outdoors.

So be aware of all of these points before you decide on the right water fountain in your household.

Building a Bar Inside Your Home

Posted by: Reader | Comments (0)

It’s nice to have your own bar inside your home. It is one of those touches that sets one house apart from the next so that you not only have a great addition to your home but you also have something very practical and useful as well. After all, who wouldn’t enjoy entertaining guests at your very own bar right in your home? Or for that matter, having a place where you yourself can relax and unwind from a hectic day.

Building a bar is quite easy if you follow the basic instructions and the necessary guideline in building a beautiful bar masterpiece.

If you are planning to make your own bar at home, then you must be a brave one. When the topic falls down to improving the home, a lot of people become cynical about it and rather opt for the help of a contractor the do all the work. Hiring a home contractor can be quite expensive. Also, if you would ask any person who has experienced dealing with a contractor, they would usually say that contractors do the job longer than the set time frame and they may even go over the set budget. Also, when you decide to hire a contractor, it’s the same as inviting a complete stranger inside your home, and this is sometimes an awkward situation. You have no choice but to keep your house open for several hours. If you do your own bar yourself, all these worries will be thrown to trash.

If you badly want to have a bar inside your home and you want to do it yourself, the very first thing that you need to consider is going over a library or a local bookstore and does some brainstorming. Pick a book about home improvement and look out for guidelines that would help you in building your own bar. Take a look on the different samples and diagrams and decide on the design that you would want to build. Follow the instructions written on the book and buy the materials needed to complete the bar. When you have already purchased all the necessary materials in building the bar, then you can begin with the process of building. Remember, for a non-professional bar builder, you always have to base everything on the book and not on your own judgment. You can add some personal touch, but for the basic backbone of the bar, always rely o the directions stated on the guidelines.

As you begin building your bar, expect that you will commit mistakes as you go through the process. This should not worry you or get you frustrated, most of these mistakes can easily be fixed. Take them not as a discouragement but rather a lesson. Learn from it and avoid doing the same mistakes. Stick to the plan and you will eventually have a beautiful bar inside your home. Even though it’s just a product of your bare hands and without the help of professional knowledge, still you can call it a masterpiece, one that would make you feel satisfied, happy and proud.

Fresh Kitchen Design Ideas for Your Home

Posted by: Reader | Comments (0)

Are you ready to give your home a facelift? One room that deserves your attention right away is the kitchen. The stovetop is falling apart (only two of the burners work at the moment anyway), the refrigerator no longer regulates the temperature properly so your ice cream is rock solid and your lettuce is wilted, and your cabinet doors have certainly seen better days. It is time to revitalize the room in which your family loves to spend time! Whether it is making fun pancake shapes on the griddle during the weekends or decorating sugar cookies during Christmas time, everyone loves hanging out in the kitchen.

Older kitchens are not designed to be rooms in which everyone can spend time together. These rooms were often small and inconvenient. In the efforts to make sure that the refrigerator, sink, and stove were close by to one another (creating the triangle design), counter space disappeared. This design makes meal preparation much more difficult than it should be. The crowded, cramped kitchen is no longer “in”! It is time to open up that kitchen and enjoy using this space to its full potential! Here are the latest trends in kitchen design.

Let in the light! The more light a room has, the more open it feels. Large windows behind the sink and counters and even a skylight gives more life to this usually darkened room.

If possible, open up one wall of the room in order to make the kitchen an L or a G shape that is at least 100 square feet. This kitchen shape and size will then allow you to install a kitchen island! A permanent kitchen island should be at least 12 square feet and you need to leave three or more feet between the island and the counter around the edge of the kitchen. Install an extra cook-top or kitchen sink; both are incredibly helpful!
Add a few kitchen bar stools to one side of your island and you have a fantastic dining area.

Avoid dark colors throughout the entire room. Try to follow the 60-30-10 rule. Choose a lighter, neutral color for the majority of the kitchen, such as the kitchen cabinets and the walls, a different color for the floor, and a more eye-catching color for the counter-tops. It will create a beautiful effect and bring a fresh look to your kitchen design!

Just another creative writer talking about anything and everything under the sun!

Once you have decided to create a home bar, you have to think about the details.  Will you have track lighting?  Is there going to be a draft machine?  Will your bar stools swivel?  These all-important questions can be overwhelming.  Having a bar theme can help make the task of designing a lot easier.  Take a look at some of my favorite bar themes and some tips on how to make your themed bar truly authentic.

Irish Pub—One of the most popular bar themes is the Irish Pub.  Rich in history and Irish roots, a pub should have the look of a rustic, rugged drinking spot tucked into the corner of some quaint little Irish town.  The lighting is often dim and the main theme of décor is dark, shiny woods.  A heavy polished bar with brass railings should be the central item in your Irish bar and some rustic, worn in swivel top bar stools made from heavy quality wood should invite guests in for a pint.  Complete you Irish Pub with some great native brews on tap and maybe a space reserved for pool or darts.  The Irish Pub look is an easy one to achieve and a fun one to enjoy.

Tiki Lounge—Often the sought-after look for an outdoor bar, the Tiki Lounge bar is also a popular choice for home bars.  To achieve the Tiki look, a grass skirt bar is a must-have as are bamboo bar stools and a thatched roof hut.  Adding small touches like stringed lights, paper lanterns and drink umbrellas make your Tiki bar all the more authentic.  Invite guests to your Tiki Lounge either poolside or in a basement area and be sure to remember the colorful island tunes.  With a slushy ice machine and the mixed drinks flowing, you will be in paradise in no time.

Retro Swing Spot—Offer guests a throw back entertainment spot with a retro styled bar.  A high gloss bar surface with funky retro lines and shiny red stripes will remind guests of days gone by.  Complete the bar’s look with amazing vinyl seated swivel bar stools in chrome finish and you’ve got a look right out of Grease!  Accent your retro lounge with some vintage Coca Cola posters, a funky juke box and a retro soda machine and you’ve got a truly groovy set up.  Stock your bar with sodas and floats and offer martinis in retro styles glasses for the finishing touches to your new retro hang out.

Sports Bar—For the manly man, a sports bar in the home can be a dream come true.  To outfit your sports bar in high fashion, a bar top in the colors of your favorite team would match perfectly with your framed memorabilia hanging on the walls.  Provide armed bar stools and perhaps a secondary seating area with cushy chairs to watch the game in.  Don’t forget the beautiful flat-screen TV mounted in the corner to provide the entertainment.  Decorate with a neon sign or your favorite player’s jersey and give your bar an authentic team feel.  Finally, make sure the drinks are flowing from your mini keg refrigerator and be sure to have plenty of peanuts and pretzels available for when the guys come over for the game.

Whatever the bar style you decide to go with, one thing is true: your bar should be a reflection of you and your family and friends.  Keep special favorites on hand to show your guests that you truly care about their entertainment.  Most of all enjoy setting up your home bar and giving it the special touches that will truly make it your own.

Using Window Blinds In Your Home

Posted by: Reader | Comments (0)

If you are covering your windows, there are either the coverings which cover all of your view, or they cover nothing. You are stuck with the amount of light that enters the window as well. However, if you are using window blinds, you can control the desired amount of light that you let pass into your home. You can darken the area, or barely light it, with just a tilt of the blinds. If you wish to uncover the room completely, then you can lift the whole blind up.

Most stock window blinds are suitable, provided you can locate ones that will fit your window perfectly. If you cannot do this, then you need to find blinds that are constructed and adjusted based on your measurements. This is even more crucial if they are going to be mounted inside the frame itself. When you are opting for these custom blinds, the prices are still more affordable than you might anticipate. If you opt for higher quality wood blinds, then you might be paying more, but they are a better quality.

A good number of all solid wood blinds come with slats that are from one inch to three inches in width, and in your choice of either a painted finish or dark stain (which include the option of a wash or faux finish). Manufacturers warn consumers that they can expect a slight difference in wood grain varieties and colors. There are some things that you might want to take in to consideration before you buy wood blinds.

The first thing to consider is whether or not the frame of your window will support these blinds. Wood blinds are heavier than your normal window blinds and thus you need to ensure that you are going to have a frame that will support them. Next, you always need to make sure that you have the proper measurement for your blinds, because wood blinds are a lot more difficult to customize than the stock blinds.

The makers of blinds that are synthetic wood blinds will more than likely offer two or three slat widths, and a vast array of colors and textured blinds. These blinds are ones that are moisture and warp resistant, allowing them to be suitable for humid climates and for use in all kitchens and all bathrooms. These types of wood blinds will stand up to the conditions and climates better than most solid wood blinds, so when choosing wood blinds, these would definitely be one of the better options.

Wherever in the world you go you will find patchwork quilting to be a great hit. Though the basic concept was popularized by the Amish somewhere around the 17th century, the quilt pattern of sewing has been around for many thousands of years, right from the time of the Egyptians. Today, the making of the quilts is not only considered a highly satisfying hobby, but also as a medium to earn a comfortable income through a home based business.

No matter where you live, whether in Europe, Asia or North America, you will likely fall in love with a patchwork quilt, whenever you see one. There is a basic charm in the quilt pattern that literally warms up your heart. This is why patchwork quilting is the favorite pastime of many people across the globe.

Besides making excellent bedding for yourself, you could always make sentimental gifts for others. Whether it is for a wedding gift, for a baby, a birthday or an anniversary, the quilt is an excellent offering which says, without any words, “I love you.”

Quilting is usually a time consuming and a painstaking endeavor. However, the end product well justifies the trouble involved. Those who want to profit from this wonderful occupation need to start with small personal orders from friends and relatives, which could actually give an accurate idea of the local demand.

In most cases, the word-of-mouth advertising will bring in so many orders that an upgrade to machine quilting may become necessary in order to deliver on time. Though patchwork quilting by hand is in higher demand, the machine made products are appreciated too. Many people, who start on a micro scale, expand exponentially within a year. Going online could also help, although you would need a website and would have to learn a few things about internet marketing, in order to find a niche market in the virtual world.

Patchwork quilting has always been a hot favorite for people, whether in the ancient civilization of Egypt or in the modern world of today. This is because of the extremely attractive designs, and it also symbolizes love; maybe because it takes a lot of time to make a beautiful quilt.

Whatever it is, this is an art form which can make a wonderful home business as well. Anyone can start on a micro scale and expand as per the demand. For those who want to grow faster, the internet is a ready made tool waiting to be used, though some basic initial training is recommended.

Want to improve your quilting skills? All is revealed about patchwork quilting at Mike Selvon portal. Don’t forget to leave us a comment at our quilting notions blog.

Home backup generators are becoming increasingly popular for many reasons including; the need for “always on” power, lower generator prices, and advances in the technology resulting in quiet generators. The wide range of uses, power output, and size options now means that buyers can purchase a Honda home backup generator designed to precisely fit their needs. Making the choice of the right generator comes down to defining the following requirements:

* Size requirements – Size requirements refer to the need for a portable home backup generator or one that is stationary. Advances in technology have resulted in portable generators with power output levels similar to stationary generators giving them a wide range of uses. The versatility of Honda generators gives them the capability to meet the demands of many outdoor and in home uses ranging from camping to providing residential standby power. Where a stationary generator would be required are situations where power must be restored immediately should an outage occur. Stationary generators with automatic transfer switches or push button starters can restore power within seconds of an outage, a critical feature for users relying on at-home medical devices, for example.

* Power requirements – The wattage requirements of appliances and devices which must remain on will determine the necessary power output for the appropriate home backup generator. By calculating the sum total of the wattage use of each appliance and/or device a buyer can then determine the minimum required output at maximum capacity from a generator. This calculation should be based on “startup” wattage requirements to ensure that there is enough power generation to meet specific needs. For example, a typical refrigerator’s startup wattage requirement can be as much as two and a half times greater than the wattage it takes to “run” it.

* Safety requirements – Once the power output requirements for a home backup generator are determined, the requirements for running the generator at optimum safety levels can be defined. Where computers handling sensitive data or medical devices are concerned an unlimited power supply accessory should be considered. This can prevent data and power loss during the transfer of power to the generator. Home backup generators are connected to a home’s power system through its main electrical panel. This connection, and grounding the generator, should always be done by a licensed electrician. Lastly, wherever possible, the generator should be located in an area where it is protected from rain and snow. Protection can come in many forms, ranging from a covered patio to a housing built specifically for the generator.

The most important aspect of any home backup generator is that it provides its required power when called upon. Honda’s full line of generators has been delivering legendary reliability, durability, and peace of mind for decades.

HarborPowerHouse.com offers Honda Generators to protect your home or business from power outages, all kinds of outdoor recreation, and industrial use. Visit us online at EU3000i Handi / EU3000iSA or call 877-837-2648.
