Top 10 Classic Christmas Albums
By ReaderChristmas albums compliment the holiday festivities and contribute to the overall spirit of the occasion. But without these top 10 classic Christmas albums, your holiday collection is not complete.
You know the feeling. You might be in the mall when it happens or you may be listening to the radio in your car. And then you get that feeling.
It is the feeling that the Holiday season is upon us. And, often, that first feeling comes when we hear the first Christmas song playing in late October or early November. It gives me goose bumps and that feeling of anticipation that the best time of the year is upon us.
Have you realized that in the movies there is always a song playing in the background? Why is this? It is because music adds to whatever sentiment or emotion that we may experience. Thus, music is so important during the Holiday season. One listen to the “Little Drummer Boy” puts me in an entirely different place. And, when I travel during the Holidays, “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” reminds me of the great times ahead with my family in my house.
There is new Christmas music coming out every year and I enjoy listening to it. A couple of years ago, John Groban took the Christmas season by storm with his “Noel” album. I try to stay up to date with the top Christmas songs and best Christmas albums to see if anything new has hit the charts.
But none of these new acts will take the place of my favorite classic Christmas albums. For example, you can place any new artist next to Nat King Cole, and I’ll tell you who my choice will be without even viewing the competition. Nat King Cole has withstood the test of time and his Christmas album to me is one of the best Christmas albums of all time.
While Nat King Cole leads my list, there are so many other great Christmas albums that it is hard to limit the list to just 10 albums. I am a huge fan of the following Christmas albums: Andy Williams Christmas Live-Christmas Treasures, Ella Fitzgeralds’s Christmas, the Carpenters Christmas Portrait, Amy Grant Home for Christmas and then of course we must add both Frank Sinatra’s A Jolly Christmas and Dean Martin’s Christmas with Dino.
Following those, there are some other Holiday Albums that myself and my family really enjoy. The one that leads the list for entertainment is the How the Grinch Stole Christmas Soundtrack. My kids also enjoy the Boogie Woogie Christmas and the Christmas Remixed CD as these put new twists on the old classics.
Everyone has their personal favorites. These are my personal top 10 classic Christmas albums.
